GO WILD OUTSIDE

Natural History Museum Activity Book

  • This was one of the most significant projects I have done. I proposed the idea of working with the Natural History Museum to collaborate on an illustrated children’s book. this was so I could develop skills working with a large organization, as well as see what is required of me within the professional workplace.

  • They came up with the idea of an activity book to coincide with their renovation of the outdoor space of the museum, where we can educate families on how to bring wildlife into the city.

  • Being able to work alongside the museum and have a book published will be a big highlight for my career. It meant a lot to work with a company like theirs and to help design something I truly believe in. Wildlife and education were at the center of my focus and it was fantastic to be able to illustrate something so close to my heart.

  • With the project really focusing on how sustainable cities are and possibly how I am, it opened the question of how important small things could be for the environment.

  • With all the ideas on how to be sustainable, it was not hard to come up with ideas on how to set out the colouring poster. With group tutors providing feedback and giving me things to consider such as once the image is printed how will certain parts look, and how the bit will section be.

  • I wanted to add easter eggs as well as scenes not only for the children to enjoy but for adults to enjoy as well, as I thought it was important to create an activity that both children and adults could enjoy.

  • There were not so much many problems during this project, as most of it was understandable at the start, it was just trying to figure out how to do shading and make sure that people would still want to colour it.

COLLABORATION

The Giant's Garden

  • This project has developed old skills as well as develop new ones. This comes down to the opportunity to work with people in the publication, as well as working with the client to create a narrative story for the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads.

  • It was a struggle to think of an idea at first, as I was not too sure how vague I could be with an informational book, and I did not think an activities book would be suitable for Neurodiverse. Once the project started to pick up, I fully invested my time in it, creating a forty-page narrative children’s book, as well as the publication.

  • The publication gave me the chance to meet and work with talented illustrators, all filled with unique ideas and experiences. This meant I was able to learn new techniques and methods. Some of these I have used within this project and will continue to use throughout my future endeavors.
